Programme of musical residencies, concerts, sound parades throughout the City

Sound Res welcomes to Bordeaux internationally renowned musicians (Iva Bittova, Bang on a Can All Stars, David Sheppard, Phil Kline, Madan Gopal Singh et Yaar Chaar, David Hykes, 4FiveVi, Luigi Negro and Steve Piccolo in collaboration with Luigi Presicce)

Everyone is invited to take part in the workshops, rehearsals and acoustic walkabouts from the right bank to the left, from squares to parks, from places of collective memory to those of everyday and intimate life.

The main venue for the Sound Res creative musical residency is the Conservatoire, where all guest musicians will propose sound creation workshops open to the public. Other venues will also be concerned:

Sound Installation at the Submarine base

David Sheppard explores the architectural, physical and acoustic qualities of the Submarine Base, a fascinating place rich in history and memory, transformed into a monumental musical instrument, an echoing space resounding with the experimentations of guest musicians.

An original acoustic improvisation built to interact with the sound installation.

Unsilent Bordeaux

This sonic procession is an original creation by Phil Kline. Here, ghetto blasters create a great urban symphony, in which the general public is invited to take part.

Music for Airport Live

The famous Brian Eno piece is reinterpreted by Bang on a Can All Stars and played live. This concert is the outcome of a workshop put together with musicians from the Conservatoire de Bordeaux Jacques Thibaud.

One of the most dynamic ensembles of contemporary music proposes an innovative repertoire that brings forth the classics of American minimalism and their influence in today’s music (Philip Glass, Phil Kline, Michael Gordon, Don Byron, Lukas Ligeti, Bryce Dessner et Thurston Moore).

“ In C ” de Terry Riley

A classic work in the contemporary repertory, specially reinterpreted for the occasion by David Cossin, with the students of the Conservatoire de Bordeaux Jacques Thibaud and all those musicians from Bordeaux who wish to interact with this major work of American minimalism.

Parade Sound Res

Great Parade bringing together the musicians of Sound Res and Bang on a Can All-Stars, with several local brass bands, batucadas, the Petit Orchestre d’Instruments Inventés and all other musicians – professional or amateur. An invitation to musically invade the public space, a huge procession that will invest various parts of the city, finally converging towards the Plaine des Sports for a extraordinary musical gathering.

Musical happening at Grand Parc

The musicians invited by Sound Res will be located inside different apartments in Grand Parc highrises, and will perform an original composition with windows wide open.

The emotional acoustic landscape of Grand Parc

Steve Piccolo and Luigi Nero will construct a system of public/private conversations, using recordings made in local homes. They are also laying out a sonic/emotional landscape of the city.
