Evento 2009

Invited by the City of Bordeaux, the French-Portuguese architect and artist Didier Faustino imagined the first edition of Evento, conceiving it as an alternative and unprecedented artistic proposal in the public space. Centred on the theme of ‘A Personal Collective’, this event ‘for, with and in Bordeaux’ celebrating contemporary artistic creation, took the shape of a first central than peripheral event, homogeneous in its subject and diverse in its practice, thanks to a system of travelling artworks, bringing them to the public in the different neighbourhoods but also thanks to extraordinary collaborations between artists, residents and local actors.

This first carte blanche, with the city at the heart of the artists’ inspiration, was the occasion for more than 30 authors to create and transform daily life with proposals as varied as the impressive “Footpath” by Tadashi Kawamata, the accomplishment of Amos Gitaï’s cinematographic installation at the Submarine Base, the urban and musical stroll orchestrated by the American architects Diller& Scofidio, the composer Julia Wolfe and the Conservatoire Jacques Thibaud, the dreamlike exploration of Dennis Adams and his glass of wine, the explosive collaboration between the Madrid-based collective Democracia and the Girondins de Bordeaux football club, but also the poetic and ethereal installation by Anri Sala, etc.
